The Drummond Culinary Academy
The Rancho Cielo Drummond Culinary Academy is one of several programs of Rancho Cielo tailored to help transform the lives of our youth through learning new skills, on the job training, and professional mentorship. Our goal is to train at-risk youth in the Salinas and Monterey County area in a work environment that is conducive to learning, where they feel challenged, respected, and accountable. Our ultimate desire is to prepare culinary academy students to become qualified to work on commercial restaurants.
We accomplish our mission by training our students using Rancho Cielo Drummond Academy unique hands on curriculum and in an environment that provides real life situations by the operation of the culinary academy dining room area and special events.
The Rancho Cielo Drummond Culinary Academy will offer Monterey County Youth the opportunity of completing their high school education while obtaining culinary art skills. Students enrolled in the Culinary Academy will work with academic instructors that will help them meet the California standard requirements to obtain their high school diploma while enrolled in the academy. The academic instruction will occur integrated with the culinary curriculum in a seamless manner. The experiences the students have while participating in this program will assist them in making the transition from school to work and will allow them to develop vocational and employment skills that will be transferrable to any job in the future.
The Rancho Cielo Drummond Culinary Academy offers academic instruction leading to the completion of high school diploma in partnership with an accredited school, John Muir Charter School, based out of the Nevada County Office of Education in Nevada City, Ca.
Culinary instruction is performed by Rancho Cielo’s staff of qualified chefs and through the delivery of Pro-Start culinary curriculum. Program participants will spend at least 20 hours per week receiving culinary instruction in the kitchen and in the classroom. Program participants will learn a variety of culinary concepts and procedures in the kitchen and dining room. Students will complete a 200 hrs externship program working with local restaurants. The program will offer job placement and referal services for graduates.
